Documentation of an aspect of my work

As part of my degree, I have to choreograph in a group of 5 a 15 minute piece on a theme of our choice. My group came to a mutual agreement of using a heart rate as a score for choreography and how the various speeds of the heart rate change throughout an active person’s day. For example when the heart rate is slow, we would use more fluent movements with also less people on stage and as the heart rate speeds up, the amount of dancers on stage would increase and the dynamics of the movements would change to sharp and harsh beats. Therefore when the heart rate reaches it’s highest, all the dancers would be on stage performing to emphasise it being more frantic.

One floor pattern that we used within our choreography is shown below, this is showing the four chambers of the heart that we decided to look into and research. We showed this quite literally in our spacial pattern. Each dancer in the box resembles a chamber of the heart and the dancer on their own is portraying the blood flowing through the heart; this becomes more clear in the movement material because the “4 chambers” are performing quite a tight unison phrase that the “blood flow” is performing the same phrase but in a much slower time sequence.
